Optimizing Images for the Web

Computer monitors, for the most part, only display about 72 dots per inch (dpi). This is called the screen resolution. If you publish an image with a resolution greater than 72 dpi, it’s a waste of download time, rendering time in the browser, bandwidth usage and server storage space. The same is true of image “file size.” If you publish an image with a file size greater than 450 KB, it’s a waste of download time, rendering time in the browser, bandwidth usage and server storage space. Many hosting services charge for bandwidth usage. Using un-optimized images on your website is an added and unnecessary expense for Travel Leaders.

All I See is a White Screen. Where is my website?

In the world of WordPress, a blank screen is referred to as the “White Screen of Death.” This blank screen can be caused by a number of reasons. More often than not, it is caused by either a code conflict or a database issue. It can also be caused by a memory limit issue. The problem is that many times, you will not be able to get to the Admin logon to fix the problem. This is why it is very important to keep a current backup copy of your website.

The WWW in Your Website Address

The “www” in your website address stands for World Wide Web. It precedes a domain name such as “” Most domains can be reached with or without the “www” added. In addition to using domain names in your website address, there are also subdomains such as “” In this case, the word “business” precedes the domain name, making it a “sub” of “” Please note that preceding a subdomain with www would be like mispronouncing a word in a foreign language. A person can get by doing it, but to those who speak the language, that person would not be seen as pronouncing the word correctly. This is because a subdomain (like business) in most cases replaces the “www” in a website address. Another tip to consider is that Google Analytics only tracks one domain URL at a time. Therefore, it is best for reporting purposes, to route all traffic going to the non-www version of your web address URL to the www version ( is routed to Otherwise, Google will create two traffic reports (one for each) that will need to be combined.

Sharing Your WordPress Account

Like most companies, when an employee leaves, HR requires access to any account be removed. If a group of employees are sharing one person’s login and someone within the group leaves the company, the shared login will be removed; making it impossible for the rest of the group to login. This is one of the main reasons for not sharing one person’s login. Also, sharing one person’s login makes it impossible to inform and update additional users (since no one knows who you are).
